Quick Cat II and That's Awesome Whale Watching boats
ommercial whale watching in Australia began the day Brian and Jill Perry discovered
whales in the calm pristine waters of Hervey Bay on the Fraser Coast of Queensland.
Since that fateful day 23 years ago over a million people have been whale watching
in Hervey Bay.
Brian & Jill are celebrating 23 years of whale watching in Hervey Bay this
year and are expecting a great whale watching season. Their vessel, Quick Cat
II was designed in 2003 specifically with whale watching in mind for access for
all. Wheelchairs and prams can easily maneuver around the main deck.
The award-winning vessel has won over 20 awards including 10 Fraser Coast South
Burnett Tourism Awards for Excellence, has been awarded Advanced Eco Tourism Accreditation
and been entered into the Fraser Coast Hall of Fame for its achievements in the
whale watching industry. Quick Cat II is the most awarded whale watching vessel
in Australia.
Quick Cat II whale watching cruises can be coupled with accommodations packages
to suit all budgets. Whale watching tours operate twice daily during the season
(mid July to early November) with home made muffins served for morning or afternoon
tea.
We added a new and exciting vessel to our fleet for the season beginning 2007,
"thats Awesome", a new high speed RIB style vessel as an alternative to Quick Cat II.
"that's Awesome" does not offer wheelchair access.

SITE
Student Industry Training Experience: If there was ever a time when we need to
encourage our youths to take up a trade it is now. Our workforce is aging and
retiring creating a skills shortage. SITE helps by placing students with businesses
to give them a taste of working. It allows the students to experience life in
a trade to see if they like it, and it gies employers a chance to 'test drive' prospective
employees. While there are heaps of students willing to experience, there is always
a need for more businesses to take students. SITE can also organise school-based
traineeships and apprenticeships.
Hervey Bay Surf Club
A volunteer organisation that trains the leaders of tomorrow and ensures the
safety of our beaches.

Electrical International
We all know every home and office is fitted with circuit breakers to cut the
power in an emergency and save lives. But do you know if you circuit breakers
actually work? When was the last time you had them tested, or when out and pressed
the test button your self to check they are working?
When was the last time you checked to see if the electrical appliances around
your office were actually tested and tagged? Did you know that the test tags have
a limited life and the equipment needs to be regularly tested?
These little home truths and more will be outlined by Bill at the next event.

Transition Town Hervey Bay
Transition Town Hervey Bay (TTHB) is a community based initiative set up to respond
to the opportunities and challenges of peak oil and climate change. Our goal
is to work with the community, businesses, council and other key stakeholders
to transition Hervey Bay and the Fraser Coast towards a more sustainable future.
TTHB is a member of the worldwide Transition Towns network.
As there are many groups and individuals in the Fraser Coast already working
towards a more sustainable future, part of our role will be to act as a communication
hub focusing everyone’s efforts and linking them together.
There are hundreds of different ways that we can build a more sustainable and
fruitful local economy by buying locally and cutting down on transport coasts.
We can all pursue a Low Carbon Diet by introducing energy efficient appliances,
light bulbs, water efficient shower heads, walking and cycling more and growing
our own food. Both money and energy can be saved by implementing some of these
ideas.
The Low Carbon Diet will be launched soon and the next meeting of the Energy
Descent Action Plan (EDAP) will be held on Saturday 4 July.
We have set a goal of reaching 12% of our population, that’s about 6,000 people,
so if you are a resident of the Hervey Bay area and would like to receive updates
from TTHB, send your e-mail address and help us to reach our goal.
You can contact us by e-mail on: tt_hb@hotmail.com and/or visit our website http://transitionfrasercoast.org.au
You could also visit the Transition Town Hervey Bay resources area in the Hervey
Bay Library to become more informed about some of the challenges we may face and
some of the positive solutions we can take.
